Beyond Lahore & Karachi: 7 Pakistani Cities That Deserve to Host PSL in Future

For years, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been the heartbeat of the nation. However, the magic of the league has largely been restricted to the "Big Four": Lahore, Karachi, Multan, and Rawalpindi. While these cities have been fantastic hosts, the cricket-crazy fans across the rest of Pakistan are now demanding their fair share of the action.

To truly globalize the league and fulfill the dreams of millions, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) must look toward expansion. Here are seven cities that deserve to host PSL in Future.

1. Niaz Stadium, Hyderabad: The Home of the Kingsmen

Hyderabad is a city with a rich cricketing history, yet Niaz Stadium has been neglected for far too long. Fawad Sarwar, Chairman of the Hyderabad Kingsmen, has expressed a strong desire to renovate this venue and bring high-quality cricket back to the city. Upgrading this stadium would provide a dedicated home ground for the local talent and give the passionate fans of Sindh a reason to celebrate. Very few people know that this is the stadium where the first hat-trick in ODI cricket was taken.

Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, Peshawar: The Zalmi Fortress

It is almost poetic that Peshawar Zalmi, the franchise with arguably the largest and most loyal fanbase, rarely gets to play in front of its own people. Whether they play in Karachi or Dubai, the "Yellow Storm" is always supported by a full house. Javed Afridi has been vocal about bringing matches to the KP capital. Peshawar's Imran Khan Cricket Stadium is ready to host but has not yet received the opportunity to host.

3. Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad: The Manchester of Pakistan

As Pakistan’s second-largest city in Punjab and a massive industrial hub, Faisalabad lives and breathes cricket. Known as the Manchester of Pakistan, the city’s Iqbal Stadium has hosted legendary international matches in the past. The level of local engagement here is at its peak, and a PSL venue in Faisalabad would undoubtedly be a commercial goldmine for the PCB.

4. Islamabad: A Capital Without a Home

It is quite surprising that the world’s second most beautiful capital lacks a dedicated international-standard cricket stadium. Islamabad United is one of the most successful franchises in PSL history, yet they are forced to play their "home" games in Rawalpindi. The citizens of the capital deserve a state-of-the-art cricket stadium that reflects the city's status and beauty.

5. Jinnah Stadium, Sialkot: The Sports Hub of Asia

Sialkot is the city that provides the world with top-quality sports gear, yet its own Jinnah Stadium lies in a state of transition. While renovation began under previous administrations, progress has stalled. The Govt of Punjab and PCB must prioritize this venue. As one of Pakistan's oldest and most iconic grounds, Sialkot deserves to host PSL matches, perhaps even serving as a secondary home for Lahore Qalandars.

6. Abbottabad Cricket Stadium: Cricket in the Clouds

If the PCB wants to boost sports tourism, Abbottabad is the answer. Located in a breathtaking hill station, this stadium offers a cool climate perfect for cricket during the warmer months. It provides an ideal alternative for Peshawar Zalmi matches and offers a scenic backdrop that would rival any stadium in the world, like New Zealand's Queenstown.

7. Gwadar & Quetta: The Pride of Balochistan

The Gwadar Cricket Stadium has already gone viral globally for its stunning aerial views and proximity to the sea. Converting this into an international-standard venue would be a game-changer for Balochistan's tourism. Simultaneously, the Bugti Stadium in Quetta requires urgent renovation to allow the Quetta Gladiators to finally play in front of their home crowd. The people of Balochistan are hungry for top-tier cricket, and the PSL is the perfect platform to deliver it.

The Conclusion: A Vision for the Future

The potential for cricket in Pakistan is limitless. Beyond these seven cities, regions like Skardu, Swat, Kalam, Murree, Muzaffarabad and Gilgit offer venues that could make Pakistan the most sought-after destination for sports tourism in the world.

By renovating these stadiums and decentralizing the PSL, the PCB can ensure that the "dili khawahish" (heartfelt wish) of every Pakistani fan is fulfilled. It’s time to take the PSL to every corner of the country and show the world the true face of Pakistani cricket.
